I want to quit social media.
That’s it! THAT’S IT. I’m done with social media. I’m fed up with all the stupid, pointless posts. I’m tired of wasting my time. I’m tired of thinking about who likes, comments or views my posts. I’m tired of staring at my phone like a zombie. I’m tired of scrolling thoughtlessly through the feeds. THIS is where it ends. From now on, I will use my time wisely. I’ll get enough rest. Bloody hell! Just as my phone vibrates and a new notification pops up on the screen, I pick up my phone and dive back into the dark abyss of mindless scrolling. Let’s be honest… most of us have experienced this. You thought about a lot before you were even unable to do it. And why? These social media platforms are smart. They are intentionally designed to keep us hooked. They should keep us busy so that we can spend as much time as possible on their platforms. Social networking apps regulate our mood, our feelings, what we think, how we behave, who we connect with, and who we ignore – these apps control our lives, if you think about it. They unfairly compare the worst of our life with the best of another person. They affect our self-esteem, our confidence, our relationships, make us want more from our lives (even when we don’t really need it), and keep us from being content with what we have.Even these good motivational quotes are useless. One minute you’re still feeling spiritual and all, and then you scroll down to the next post about your friend’s well-paying job and you’re back down the abyss of self-loathing and self-loathing.

The only reason you can’t stop using social media is because you’re addicted to it. We all want to feel special. But at what price? These apps change the chemicals in our brains by affecting the dopaminergic reward system . Dopamine is a neurotransmitter released in the brain as a reward for pleasurable behavior. Dopamine is released when we exercise, eat good food, or have sex. It can also be spilled when you put all the attention on your posts, because it doesn’t regulate rational thinking or helpful habits. So when dopamine is released for unhealthy behaviors, the habit can become an addiction. If you’re supposed to get more “likes”, “hearts” and so on, you become increasingly addicted to these platforms without even realizing it. So you spend many hours on these apps and affect the quality of your life.
According to a 2019 study , “social networking addiction is classified as a form of cyber relationship addiction.” She adds that such addictions can arise because of negative childhood psychological or emotional experiences, psychosocial status, and personality traits. It can also be influenced by “age, gender, economic status and nationality”. The study explains that we can become addicted to social media for reward reasons, e.g. B. to escape from the reality of our inner and outer problems or to entertain ourselves. Also, we can also become addicted to certain activities on social networking platforms and not the platform or medium itself, as further research suggests demonstrate.
