If you want to remove the protection Windows Defender provides in your Windows 10, click on Start and type in Defender. Then double click on Windows Defender and a new window will appear. Once you are in the main window, click on settings that are at the top right of the screen. The settings windows will pop up and from here you will click Update & Security. After, you will click on the Windows defender and then make sure you disable the real-time protection. Although if you disable Windows defender without installing any other antivirus, then Defender will automatically turn on once you start your system again.
However, if you want to avoid this from occurring, you will have to stop your system drive from being scanned. Go to settings, then select the Update and Security option and then Windows Defender. From here, click on Add an exclusion link and press exclude a folder button. Select your local disk C:\ folder. You can also exclude as many folders as you want.
